10-year-old electrocuted

A student of a government higher primary school was electrocuted after she touched an iron pole near a transformer in Muddapura village in Chitradurga district on Tuesday.

The police identified the deceased as Sindhu, 10, a Class V student of the school in Muddapura. She is the daughter of Ramesh of Muddapura village.

Sindhu, who was headed to school around 9.30 a.m., passed near the transformer, accidentally touched an iron pole used to display advertisement banners on the old gram panchayat office premises which has been demolished. As soon as she came in contact with the pole, she fell unconscious.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction Revanasiddappa told The Hindu, she might have died due to electric shock because of grounding. She died on the way to the hospital.

The Turuvanuru police registered a case. The villagers parents, relatives of the deceased staged a protest.
