As part of the G20 presidency, a Business 20 (B20) inception meeting began in Gujarat’s capital Gandhinagar on Sunday with over 600 delegates participating in the event, to deliberate on issues ranging from climate change, innovation, global digital cooperation and resilient global value chains.

The B20 India 2023 dialogue is taking place under the theme of ‘RAISE,’ an acronym for Responsible, Accelerated, Innovative, Sustainable and Equitable Businesses.

“Starting with the three-day conclave, a total of 15 events related to G20 will take place in Gujarat,” said Gujarat’s Principal Secretary (economic affairs) Mona Khandhar, who is tasked with coordinating the events.

A plenary session for the B20 meeting will be organised at the Mahatma Mandir convention centre in Gandhinagar on Monday in which Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant will participate.

According to Ms. Khandar, Gandhinagar is hosting the first three days while the other 14 meetings/events will be held in various cities including Ahmedabad, Surat, the Statue of Unity at Kevadiya, and Dhordo in Kutch.

In Kutch, the first meeting of the tourism working group of G20 countries will take place from February 7 to February 10, while a similar event of the Urban 20 Inception will be held in Ahmedabad from February 9 to February 10.

In the meeting of the Urban 20 Inception, mayors and representatives from G20 countries, C40 (cities climate leadership group), the UCLG (united cities and local governments) member-cities, and observer cities are expected to participate.

The delegates will be informed about the transformative initiatives undertaken by the Gujarat government, which is enabling a cleaner, greener, and an inclusive economic growth.

She added that the delegates attending the event are from top business groups, think tanks and universities, policy makers, bureaucrats and others.
