Amid a strong presence of Indian diaspora and illustrative names as Non-Resident Indians, there are thousands desparately waiting for the government's help to bring them back to the country. This includes migrant Indian workers duped in foreign land, those languishing in jails of Gulf nations and those caught in between civil unrest in the countries they settled, hoping for a better life.
The Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Missions abroad constantly strive to help these Indians living abroad. In the last three years, as many as 20,225 Indians were rescued or brought back from foreign countries, especially war-torn Iraq, Yemen, Libya and Ukraine. The details were presented to both the Houses of Parliament during the monsoon session.
