Communal elements will not be spared: Rajnath

October 08, 2015 01:24 am | Updated November 16, 2021 03:54 pm IST - New Delhi:

In a terse message to political leaders cutting across party lines, who made controversial remarks regarding the Dadri incident where a 50-year-old man was lynched over rumours of consuming beef, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said Wednesday that strongest possible action would be taken against those who try to disrupt communal harmony in the State.

Mr. Singh, who a day ago had said that maintaining communal harmony was everyone’s responsibility, came up with a stronger statement on Wednesday. “Be it the State government or the Central government, strongest possible action will be taken against those who try to break communal harmony in the country,” he said on the sidelines of a function here.

BJP leaders like Sangeet Som, Sadhvi Prachi and Sakshi Maharaj apart from Samajwadi Party’s Azam Khan and AIMIM’s Asauddin Owaisi have come under the scanner for making polarising statements regarding the incident.

The MHA had also sent a strong advisory to all the States, including Uttar Pradesh, to maintain communal harmony in the State. It also asked the U.P government for a compliance report on the steps it had taken to restore communal harmony in the state.

In a statement, the Home Ministry had said it was concerned over various incidents with communal overtones across the country, including the recent “unfortunate” incident at Dadri.
