Support poured in for brothers Raju and Brijesh, sons of a daily wager, who cracked IIT entrance test with Rahul Gandhi assuring them all help and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announcing that his government will bear the expenses of their admission.
Raju, 18, and Brijesh, 19, cleared the IIT Advanced examinations earlier this week. Raju secured 167th rank while his brother Brijesh stood 410th in the exam.
Congress sources said that Rahul Gandhi spoke to the brothers on Saturday morning and subsequently directed local party leaders including Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tewari and his daughter and MLA Aradhana to extend all necessary help to them.
Sanitation NGO Sulabh International also assured help and said it will take care of all financial expenses of the brothers.
The Uttar Pradesh government announced that it will honour the two brothers, residents of Rehua Lalganj in Pratapgarh district, who cracked the IIT test overcoming all odds.
“Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has taken a decision in this regard taking note of media reports on how the two young brothers Brijesh Kumar Saroj and Raju Saroj successfully faced financial challenges and overcame all odds to crack the prestigious examination”, a government spokesman said.
“The chief minister said that Samajwadi Party government always encourages those who achieve success through their talent, hard work and dedication and provides help to them,” the spokesman said, adding, that under this policy the government has decided to extend help to the brothers.
