Heavy rains forecast for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala as Northeast Monsoon sets in

The Northeast Monsoon set in over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, southern Karnataka and Rayalaseema regions on Friday, November 2, 2018, the India Meteorological Department said.

The department observed “heavy to very heavy rainfall” at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the past 24 hours.

Nagapattinam and Karaikal received the most rainfall — 14 cm and 7 cm respectively. The department has forecast “heavy rain very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala” in the next two days.

Thunderstorms accompanied by hail are “very likely at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.”

The monsoon is 10 days late, and there is a trough of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal.
