Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has told Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that she will push her proposal for Australia lifting the ban on uranium supplies to India.

In a brief interaction with Dr. Singh on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit here, Ms. Gillard said she would put forward the proposal at her Labour Party's conference scheduled for December.

In a letter to Dr. Singh a few days ago, Ms. Gillard listed India's growing energy needs and impeccable record in non-proliferation and the strategic ties between India and Australia as reasons for her taking the initiative.
