Fresh NBW issued against Azharuddin

Published - March 02, 2012 12:24 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A court here on Thursday issued a fresh non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Moradabad Congress MP Mohammed Azharuddin, who had sought exemption from personal appearance in a cheque bounce case, claiming that he was held up with the party's election campaign in Uttar Pradesh.

Metropolitan Magistrate Vikrant Vaid issued the NBW for March 7. Counsel for the complainant Sanjay Solanki demanded that the MP's plea be rejected. On February 18, the court issued an NBW against Mr. Azharuddin for March 1, after he failed to show up in court that day.

Mr. Solanki alleged that Mr. Azharuddin was yet to repay Rs.1.5 crore in a failed property deal to him but thrice issued cheques, which were dishonoured by banks.
