Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on Monday after testing positive for COVID-19.
“Wishing our former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh ji good health and a speedy recovery,” tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi in a statement said, “I am deeply concerned to learn that Dr. Manmohan Singh is unwell & has been hospitalised. On behalf of all of us in the Congress Party I send my good wishes to him for a speedy and complete recovery.”
A source close to 88-year-old Dr. Singh said he had been admitted to the AIIMS trauma centre for monitoring and further treatment and his condition is reported to be stable. He had taken both the doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
The former Prime Minister, who has been having a mild fever since Sunday night, tested positive on Monday morning.

As the news of his hospitalisation spread, messages for his speedy recovery poured in on social media platforms.
Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Wishing you a speedy recovery. India needs your guidance and advice in this difficult time.”
Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Chief Ministers Ashok Gehlot, Amarinder Singh and Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, National Conference leaders Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah were among several leaders who prayed for the early recovery of Dr. Singh.
“My prayers are with Manmohan Singh ji and his family today, and my deepest respect. May he fight this scourge with all his might and get well soon,” Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Twitter.
