Accusing the Centre of delaying a decision on the demand for a separate Telangana state, TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday said the patience of the people in the region should not be tested.
“I appeal to the Prime Minister sincerely, don’t trouble the Telangana people by delaying the decision. He should implement the promise he made in Parliament and start the official process for formation of Telangana immediately,” he said.
Mr. Rao warned that if the decision on the vexed separate statehood issue was delayed people would agitate “in a big way” and there were possibilities of “unnatural developments.”
“If patience runs out, there will be unnatural developments. The violent incidents that took place during the 1969 pro-Telangana agitation may happen again. We want to achieve Telangana by peaceful means. Centre should not create troubles,” he said.
He was speaking after participating in the ‘Hyderabad cooks on roads’ protest organised in Hyderabad today in support of the separate Telangana demand.
Finding fault with Congress leaders in Telangana lobbying with their high command for a favourable decision on the statehood issue, the TRS president claimed that the Telangana demand would be accepted if they quit their posts.
“Telangana Congress leaders should stop diplomacy in Delhi. If they quit their posts, then Delhi will come to Hyderabad to give a separate state. Sacrifices are needed,” he said.
He assured that he would work for the victory of Congress candidates if polls took place due to their resignations.
“If their resignations are accepted, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) and I will work for the victory of Congress candidates,” he said.
Referring to the reported statements of some leaders from non-Telangana regions extending support for a united Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Rao advised them not to hang on to “integrationism.”
