A Delhi court on Wednesday rejected a plea of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking a one-day custodial interrogation of former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram in the INX Media money laundering case and Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar sent him to 14 days judicial custody.

Earlier, the ED produced him before the court on expiry of the 74-year-old senior Congress leader's six-day custody. On October 24, the court sent him to ED custody till October 30.

The ED has already availed 13 days of his police custody, one short of the maximum days of custody it can seek.

It had taken him into custody on October 16.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, for the ED, told the court that they would like to effectively use the one day left with them.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Mr. Chidambaram, said the ED did not confront Mr. Chidambaram for 14 days.

Mr. Chidambaram, who is on bail in the INX Media corruption case, has filed an application for bail before the Delhi High Court in the money laundering case as well. The plea is under consideration.
