Dasgupta seeks House debate on JPC report

November 16, 2013 11:57 pm | Updated May 28, 2016 09:32 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Communist Party of India leader Gurudas Dasgupta has written to the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, asking for a full-fledged discussion on the Joint Parliamentary Committee report on pricing of telecom licences and spectrum.

The report was never placed for discussion before the JPC and facts were not taken into consideration. “Arbitrarily and subjectively the report was drawn up,” he said in his letter sent on Friday.

Given that the thrust of his letter is to show how the Prime Minister was complicit in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, Mr. Dasgupta said his intention was not to malign Manmohan Singh but to put matters on record for posterity. “Members of his Cabinet had cautioned him and officials had flagged the irregularities.”

He said he had documents to prove that the Prime Minister had not been misled as concluded in the report. “Under his own hand, he has given the order that the pricing of spectrum can be done singularly by the Department of Telecommunications in consultation with the Ministry of Finance,” he pointed out.
