Court to hear Tejpal’s bail plea today

District and Sessions Judge Anuja Prabhudesai here on Saturday will hear an application for bail moved on behalf of editor–in-chief of Tehelka magazine Tarun Tejpal, accused in the journalist sexual assault case.

Mr. Tejpal, charged with sexual assault on a junior journalist colleague during ThinkFest event of his magazine at a five star hotel in Bambolim in north Goa early November 2013, is now in judicial custody in Sada sub-jail in Vasco in south Goa.

The judge on Friday last dismissed an application for in camera hearing of Mr. Tejpal’s bail plea.

With Mr. Tejpal’s 12 days of extended judicial custody coming to an end on Friday, he will have to be produced before the JMFC court here on Saturday.

Mr. Tejpal was arrested by the Goa Crime Branch on November 30 last after his anticipatory bail was rejected by District and Sessions Court, Panaji.
