An election review meeting to analyse Congress’ performance in the 10 Lok Sabha seats of western Uttar Pradesh saw a heated exchange among party leaders and workers.
From fielding outsiders, to criticising Congress manifesto promises like the removal of sedition laws and the dilution of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, to the lack of funds, Congress sources said party functionaries mentioned several key issues before general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia and UP Congress chief Raj Babbar.
A video clip tweeted by ANI, the news agency, showed Congress members pushing and shoving each other at the Congress War Room located at 26, Gurudwara Rakabganj Road.
Former Ghaziabad MLA, K.K. Sharma told reporters that he wanted to raise issues about the former UP in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad, but was not allowed.
Mr. Sharma’s daughter-in-law unsuccessfully contested from the Ghaziabad seat.
Candidates, district Congress presidents and former MPs from the 10 Lok Sabha seats, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Amroha, Meerut, Bijnore, Nagina, among others, were called for the review meeting.
“As long as I was there, I did not see any heated exchange. Every Lok Sabha seat was called separately and everyone put across their view very well. This is a natural course of action after the poll defeat,” said former MP Meem Afzal.
While Mr. Scindia took a review of UP West on Tuesday, Ms. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be meeting party workers on Wednesday at Rae Bareli.
