The Congress on Tuesday demanded an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into the Bulandshahr violence in Uttar Pradesh that killed two persons, including a police inspector.
“Their own Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar has alleged that people from the Bajrang Dal, the VHP and the RSS planned a conspiracy... one that eventually took away the life of inspector Subodh Kumar Singh,” said former Law Minister Kapil Sibal, also a Rajya Sabha member from U.P.. “The Chief Minister didn’t show any sensitivity for the family of the police official and was busy watching a light and sound show in Gorakhpur with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh,” he said.
The Congress leader said an inquiry by the U.P. government or the CBI would neither inspire confidence nor deliver justice. “Who do we believe? We don’t have faith in them [UP government]. Earlier, we would have said CBI, but you have seen CBI’s situation in recent times... Only a judicial inquiry under the supervision of a sitting judge can hope to deliver justice,” Mr. Sibal said.
The Bulandshahr incident fits in with the pattern of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other Hindutva outfits instigating communal tensions, CPI(M) Polit Bureau said in a statement. “Such incidents are planned in view of the Lok Sabha elections... The provocative speeches being made by Chief Minister Adityanath have also created an atmosphere for the mobs to act with impunity,”it said.
CPI leader D. Raja said the incident was part of the politics of hate and intolerance the BJP government was propagating.
