CITU leader Kali Ghosh passes away

Senior leader of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Kali Ghosh passed away on Saturday. He was 83.

The Central Secretariat of CITU expressed its profound grief over the demise of ‘Comrade Kali Ghosh’ saying that he was one of the senior most leaders of CITU who had been at the vanguard of many labour movements.

He was elected as secretary of the West Bengal Committee of CITU in1980. From 2003 to 2012, he was general secretary of the West Bengal State CITU according to a statement.

He was elected as one of the national secretaries of CITU in 1994 and continued in that position till the last conference of CITU in April 2013. He was also a member of the West Bengal State Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Long-standing labour leader

In due recognition of his capabilities as a very long standing trade union leader, many Central level important responsibilities were assigned to him the statement said..

Mr. Kali Ghosh represented CITU in various bipartite and tripartite committees and was a member of the Board of Employees State Insurance Corporation. He had written many books on labour-related issues, including on labour laws. He had led many delegations of CITU to various international meetings and conferences.
