February 09, 2016 12:12 am | Updated 12:12 am IST - AHMEDABAD:

A senior BJP leader and Cabinet Minister in Gujarat, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, is likely to be appointed as the next party chief in Gujarat where incumbent R.C. Faldu’s term has expired. Mr. Chudasama is a Cabinet Minister in charge of education and civil supply.

On Sunday, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and State BJP leaders had a meeting with BJP president Amit Shah to finalise a name to head the party unit. Though official announcement is yet to be made, party insiders said that Mr. Chudasama has been decided as a “consensus candidate.” When contacted, Mr. Chudasama said: “I have always respected party’s decisions and have shouldered any responsibility that party has assigned to me.”

The formal announcement may be made in the next two to three days.
