Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala on Wednesday raised the issue of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan withholding information related to the Vyapam scam from the Assembly on many occasions, as reported by The Hindu on July 11.

He alleged that the Chief Minister’s acts showed he was trying to protect the accused. “The Chief Minister continuing even for a single day will adversely affect the CBI investigation.”

The Hindu reported on July 11 how Mr. Chouhan withheld information when scam-related questions were asked during Question Hour.

In one case, Mr. Chouhan told the Assembly on February 23, 2012, that the government issued orders for sending allegedly fake signatures and photographs of candidates to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Hyderabad and Chandigarh. But applications filed by the whistle-blower Ashish Chaturvedi in November 2012 revealed that the samples were never received at the labs.
