Policeman killed in Maoist attack in marketplace

Two other cops grievously hurt in south Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district

A small action team of Maoists attacked police at a marketplace in Dantewada district of south Chhattisgarh on Saturday leaving one policeman dead and two cops grievously wounded.

“The attack took place at Tumnar marketplace. Auxiliary constable Mangal Ram Mandavi was shot at from a close range by the Maoists. He died on the spot. Two other policemen were also injured in the attack. However, they managed to nab one Maoist,” Dantewada Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap told The Hindu .

The injured policemen have been identified as Ramlal Yadav and Munnaram Mandavi, who were posted in Kasoli CAF (Chhattisgarh Armed Forces) camp and had come to Tumnar along with Mangal Ram Mandavi to gather intelligence.

Country-made arms “The ultras were carrying country-made weapons and 12 bore guns. Despite receiving bullet injuries, Ramalal Yadav and Munnaram Mandavi managed to nab one of the attackers. He has been identified as Budhram from Dumra village,” added Mr. Kashyap.

The injured cops were airlifted to Jagdalpur for treatment.
