Union Home Minister Amit Shah told an industry body on March 28 that the law and order situation and government policy was conducive to invest in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K)
Mr. Shah made the remarks at the annual session of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM).
He said the government was working to bring down the logistics cost to GDP to 7.5% from the current 13% and added that without the development of the country’s infrastructure and reduction of logistics costs, development was not possible.
The Minister said the Narendra Modi government planned to invest ₹100 lakh crore in infrastructure with some mega projects such as the doubling of railway lines, dedicated freight corridors from Mumbai to Delhi and Amritsar to Kolkata, and 11 other industrial corridors.
Taking a dig at former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Mr. Shah said that when Mr. Modi was giving details of the Digital India scheme in Parliament in 2017, the Congress leader questioned how small amounts would be paid to a street vendor in a village and whether villages would have electricity and broadband to enable those transactions.
“Wherever you go you will find UPI is being used by almost every business. UPI contributed 52% of the 8,840 crore digital transactions in 2022 which comes to ₹1.26 lakh crore,” he said.
