The CBI is ready to move the Supreme Court against the West Bengal government and its police for impeding an ongoing court-ordered investigation into multi-crore chit fund cases, including the Saradha scam.
It is learnt that the matter would be mentioned on Monday for urgent hearing by Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta before the Chief Justice of India.
Officers harassed
The premier agency has accused the West Bengal government and police of harassment and detention of its officers.
It has accused the State government of violating the rule of law and an apex court judgment of May 9, 2014. The Supreme Court had transferred the probe into the Saradha chit fund cases to the CBI in 2014 and directed the State Police to provide every kind of assistance to the agency.
“Needless to say that the State police agencies currently investigating the cases shall provide the fullest cooperation to the CBI, including assistance in terms of men and material to enable the latter to conduct and complete the investigation expeditiously,” a Supreme Court Bench of Justices (both retired) T.S. Thakur and C.S. Nagappan had ordered the State government.
