In a discovery that is certain to raise questions over the probe conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Police Special Task Force into the Vyapam scam, around Rs 12 lakh and some documents were found hidden in old furniture in the Vyapam office in Bhopal on Monday.

A carpenter, who was cleaning the old furniture, stumbled upon the contents. The State police have seized the cache and sent it for investigation. The police have communicated the information to the CBI, which is probing the scam.

Though the police are yet to officially announce the amount seized and the content of the documents, preliminary accounts put it at Rs. 11.9 lakh. Along with the documents, a cheque bearing Rs. 75,000 in the name of Nitin Mohindra, Vyapam’s former principal system analyst, who is in jail in relation to the scam, was also found.
