Elections to fill 11 vacancies in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly along with three by-elections to Lok Sabha constituencies, vacated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Vadodara), SP chief Mulayam Singh (Mainpuri) and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (Medak) will be held on September 13. Counting will be held on September 16.

An announcement by the Election Commission on Saturday said these elections would be part of the exercise to fill up 33 Assembly seats and three Lok Sabha constituencies.

The by-polls to fill up vacancies in UP Assembly seats would be watched with keen interest as they will indicate the mood of the electorate after the May Lok Sabha election. The BJP bagged 71 out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the State.

By-elections are also scheduled on August 21 for 10 vacancies in the Bihar Assembly and eight seats in four other Assemblies. In July, the BJP lost all the three Assembly by-polls in Uttarakhand.

The other States with vacancies are Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
