Two days after a flag meeting between the Indian and the Pakistani armed forces over an incident of firing, the Pakistani Rangers’ gunfire on Wednesday killed a Border Security Force (BSF) constable and left seven more injured at the International Border in Arnia, 25 km from Jammu.
Officials said that a BSF jawan was injured in small arms firing from the Pakistani side at Peetal Post around 11.30 a.m. Three of his colleagues, including constable Dhar, rushed to evacuate him, but they were also targeted and injured. The constable died on way to the Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.
Even after all the four injured were evacuated, four civilians working in their farms were targeted and injured. They were also rushed to the GMC for treatment. All the seven injured were said to be stable in the evening.
Sources said that Wednesday’s ceasefire violation — the third in one week — would be taken up with the Pakistani side at the level of the Director General of Military Operations as the assurances of maintenance of peace, given during the flag meeting after the firing at Pindi post in Arnia, had not been honoured by the other side.
