Bribery case: CBI may rope in ED

August 05, 2014 01:30 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:44 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Central Bureau of Investigation may rope in the Enforcement Directorate to investigate a suspected money laundering angle to the alleged corruption case against Syndicate Bank Chairman and Managing Director S.K. Jain.

The government suspended Jain on Monday, two days after he was arrested by the CBI for allegedly receiving bribes through his brother-in-law to grant credit extension to two companies embroiled in the coal block scam.

The agency has obtained four days’ custody of eight accused persons who are being interrogated to ascertain whether other such deals had been struck to extend credit to private companies in violation of banking rules.

Searching for further leads, the CBI is examining contents of the computers seized during the searches on the premises of the accused.
