The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come a long way from celebrating the salvaging of election deposits to becoming the only non-Congress political outfit to win an “absolute majority” after Independence, BJP national president Amit Shah said on Sunday.
Mr. Shah, who was addressing the BJP’s State booth workers’ convention at an indoor stadium near here, said the party would win a majority in Karnataka, when votes polled in the May 12 Assembly elections are counted on May 15.
“When we contested elections, it wasn’t the case that there would be a party after a victory. There are many instances where party workers gave themselves a treat for barely managing to salvage the election deposit. The same BJP now has around 1,800 MLAs, 330 MPs, the highest number of Zilla Panchayat members, councillors, and the most number of State governments and Chief Ministers,” said Mr. Shah, who arrived in Goa on Sunday evening and left for Delhi after the meeting.
Lauding the importance of party workers, and booth workers in particular, in the BJP’s organisational structure, Mr. Shah said, “Booth structure is most imperative in all BJP wins.”
