The BJP on Monday said a section of officers and police personnel in Tripura were working at the behest of the CPI(M) despite the party’s rout in the recent Assembly elections.
BJP State vice-president Subal Bhowmik said 49 party workers and supporters were assaulted by CPI(M) cadres and policemen at various places over the past two days. But the CPI(M) countered the charge and blamed the BJP for the politically motivated violence across the State.
Mr. Bhowmik, who lost to the CPI(M) candidate in Sonamura, said 17 injured BJP workers were hospitalised. One supporter whose condition was critical was referred to Kolkata. He claimed that they had received information of CPI(M) cadres in the guise of BJP supporters creating chaos under cover of darkness, and warned them of stern action.
He alleged that a police team led by a commandant attacked the people at Dhalabil in Khowai district on Sunday night, leaving 11 injured, including women.
The CPI(M) has been alleging attacks on its party offices and workers ever since results were declared.
