The Supreme Court’s decision to postpone till January the issue of fixing a bench to hear the title suits in the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case has resulted in a demand from the Sangh Parivar that an ordinance for the construction of a Ram Temple be brought in by the Union government.
Working president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Alok Kumar said, “The VHP is for a law to build a Ram temple in Ayodhya, and we cannot wait eternally for judgement of the court.”
It may be recalled that in his recent Vijay Dashami address in Nagpur, Rashtriyaswayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat made a similar demand.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh too reacted to the order saying, “the patience of Hindus is coming to an end, I do not know what will happen if they lose patience”.
An organisation of Hindu saints and seers from 125 sampradayas of Hinduism has announced a two-day meeting at New Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium on November 3 and 4 to discuss the future programmes with regard to building a Ram temple.
Push for law
The VHP has already announced a programme of petitioning all MPs and MLAs and Governors of various States for law for the construction of a Ram temple.
The government technically has a window till the end of the Winter Session of Parliament as the Budget Session next year is likely to be a vote on account in the run-up to the general election.
There was no word yet from the Union government on both the orders of the apex court and the demand of the BJP’s ideological supporting groups for a new law.
