ASI officials fined over RTI query on Taj Mahal

June 04, 2017 10:18 pm | Updated 10:18 pm IST - New Delhi

Not providing information about illegal constructions in the prohibited area around Taj Mahal proved costly for two officials of the Archaeological Survey of India as the CIC imposed a penalty of ₹25,000 on them. The transparency panel was irked that despite its directives to disclose information on illegal constructions in the 500-metre protected area around the monument, the records were not provided to an RTI applicant. RTI applicant Bhim Singh Sagar had sought details of houses, roads, and residential colonies. The ASI said it did not have any such details.
