Work allocation on nomination may go up

June 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The State government, in all likelihood, will enhance the value of the development works to be awarded on nomination basis. The government, according to the present norms, can award the works on a nomination basis, if the value of the project is below Rs.1 lakh. This is proposed to be enhanced to up to Rs.5 lakh and the Planning Department is reading the file for the clearance from Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu.

Sources disclosed that orders to this effect would be issued, once Mr. Naidu approved the file.

The proposal to increase the limit of works to be given on nomination method would also be applicable to the works taken up under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme(MPLADS).

It has been a practice to award small works worth below Rs.1 lakh on a nomination without calling for tenders and people’s representatives of ruling party use the provision to award works to persons of their choice, mostly their supporters. That explains the complaints about poor quality of work in the contracts.
