Woman killed in wall collapse in Guntur dt.

A 35-year-old woman succumbed on Saturday to injuries sustained in a wall collapse that took place at Kornepadu village in Vatticherukuru mandal of Guntur district on Thursday.

Annavarapu Eesamma suffered serious injuries when the wall of her house caved in due to heavy rain on Thursday. She was admitted to the Government General Hospital in Guntur where she died on Saturday.

Guntur district has received 112 per cent excess rain so far this monsoon with an average rainfall of 182.9 mm for the entire district. Amaravati mandal has received the highest rainfall of 350.8 mm this season, followed by Macherla (302 mm). There have been 13 rainy days so far this month. Out of the district’s 57 mandals, 55 have received excess rainfall.

The Joint Director for Agriculture, A. Sridhar said this early spell of rain has come at the right time before the sowing season. “This rain is particularly good for sowing summer cotton and also for other crops,’’ he said.
