The airport at Gannavaram near here will be upgraded to international status, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said here on Tuesday. The airport has registered a 145 per cent occupancy rate since the bifurcation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.

Inaugurating enhanced passenger amenities at the complex, Mr. Naidu said a new terminal, which would meet international standards, would be constructed at a cost of over Rs. 108 crore by next year. Connectivity to Delhi, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia would improve.

He reminded the Centre of its promise to upgrade the airports at Vijayawada, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam into international airports.
