The Arilova police on Monday registered a case against Congress leader Vatti Vasanth Kumar for allegedly threatening a person with a gun over a property dispute in the city.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) S. Ranga Reddy said that Mr. Vasanth Kumar and another person had allegedly threatened D. Siva Kumar of dire consequences with a gun.

Mr. Siva Kumar said he had engaged a few workers on the land, which he claimed to be his, measuring about 1,100 sq yards at Yendada for some work.

He alleged that Mr. Vasanth Kumar reached the spot, asked the workers to stop the work and leave the area, and later left.

On being told by the workers, Mr. Siva Kumar said he had asked them to continue the work. “Mr. Vasanth Kumar and another person came to the area again, this time with a pistol, and threatened me,” Mr. Siva Kumar alleged. Mr. Ranga Reddy said it was visible in the evidence (video) Mr. Siva Kumar submitted to the police that Mr. Vasanth Kumar was holding a pistol and threatening them.

“The complainant has all the documents pertaining to the land,” Mr. Ranga Reddy said.

Sources said that Mr. Vasanth Kumar had informed the police that he was in possession of a pistol and that would explain to them about the incident on returning to the city from West Godavari district.

However, Mr. Ranga Reddy denied having received any such information from Mr. Vasanth Kumar.

He said the police would take action against the Congress leader. Cases were booked against Mr. Vasanth Kumar under Sections 447, 506, and 34 of the IPC and 30 of the Arms Act.
