Train dacoity case: SMSes confirm OSD’s involvement

June 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - NELLORE:

The SMS messages sent to Markapuram OSD Samay Jan Rao by one of the accused in the Navjeevan train dacoity case gave the initial leads to the Nellore district police about the OSD’s possible involvement in the gang’s activities.

One of the Armed Reserve Police constables, who was directly involved in the dacoity, reportedly sent SMSes to Jan Rao’s cellphone immediately after robbing the jewellers for Kavali. The messages indicated that their plans to rob the jewellers were successful. Meanwhile, the OSD was also charged with speaking to the district police officers asking them to let go of the arrested constables on the plea that the money involved in the dacoity had been recovered.

The case investigating officers have also got hold of information that the accused AR constables were reporting to Samay Jan Rao on the day of the dacoity and there were indications that they were acting at the behest of the OSD.

Belonging to the 2006 batch Group-I officer, Jan Rao worked in different capacities at Nandyal as DSP in the past. He is also facing departmental enquiries for his alleged involvement in several civil disputes.

After getting incriminating evidence, Jan Rao was asked to attend a meeting on the red sanders smuggling in Nellore on Monday. After the meeting, Nellore SP Dr. Gajarao Bhupal sent all the participants out of the hall except for Jan Rao and told him that he was under arrest for his involvement in the train robbery case.

Meanwhile, DGP announced rewards for cracking the Navjeevan dacoity case to Kavali Rural CI Madhu Babu and Kavali One Town CI Venkata Rao.
