Accusing the State government of utterly failing in providing employment to youth, actor and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan on Monday said employment generation would be accorded top priority once his party voted to power in the ensuing elections.
“We promise jobs to the eligible, scrapping the contributory pension scheme to the government employees and development of infrastructure and facilities to the common man. We are against hereditary politics and our party strongly believes that even the grandson of a postman and the son of a constable can become the Chief Minister of this State,” he said at a public meeting at Sir Arthur Cotton’s statue abutting the Dowleswaram barrage.
After participating in a massive ‘kavathu’ (parade) on the barrage from Pichuka Lanka to Dowleswaram along with thousands of followers, he fired salvos at the State government in his emotional address.
“I am touched by seeing this sea of humanity. I am honoured to have people like you coming from distant places to take part in the kavathu and listen to my words. Now, I am confident that our party would get a good number of seats and voted to power,” he said.
Accusing Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of failing to fulfil his poll promises, Mr. Pawan recalled that Mr. Naidu had promised two crore jobs. “At a time when millions of unemployed youth are waiting for jobs, the Chief Minister gave a job to his son. Though Mr. Lokesh could not get elected even to a panchayat, he managed to become the Panchayat Raj Minister just because of the hereditary politics,” he said, challenging the government to take steps for conducting elections to the panchayats. “We are confident that our candidates will win the maximum number of panchayats. If you have the courage, conduct the elections right now.”
Expressing concern over the ongoing sand and liquor mafia, Mr. Pawan alleged that the Chief Minister was encouraging them. “Our party is keen on eliminating corruption from the administration. People are fed up with the corrupt practices of the government and that is why they are ready to defeat Mr. Naidu,” he said, accusing Leader of the Opposition Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of resorting to faction politics. “I am ready to fight with any force, as I am courageous enough to sacrifice my life for the cause of the public. I left movies only to cleanse the politics and my fight is against corruption,” he said.
Mr. Pawan alleged that though he had extended support to the TDP in the last elections and helped it win the elections, he was subjected to humiliations on many occasions and he was never taken into confidence while taking major decisions. “Now, I am an experienced politician, as I have already seen two elections from close quarters. It is time for us to join the bandwagon and form the government,” he said.
