TN govt. staffer held, 17 bikes seized

The Chittoor Crime Police on Tuesday arrested a government employee from Tamil Nadu on charge of bike-lifting and recovered 17 Enfield motorcycles from his possession.

The accused, identified as Tamil Selvam (42) who is working as a lower division clerk in Vellore, was nabbed on the outskirts of Chittoor.

Based on the information given by him, police have seized the motorcycles from various places in Chittoor, and Vellore district of Tamil Nadu.

Modus operandi

Giving details about his modus operandi, police said that Selvam used to keep a watch on the people having Enfield bikes and steal those at the opportune time.

Based on a series of complaints from the bordering areas in Chittoor and Vellore districts, police stepped up night vigils and even laid several traps by parking bikes at vulnerable places.

Selvam was produced before the local court which remanded him in judicial custody.
