Three child marriages that were scheduled to be performed on Friday were stopped by the Childline India Foundation NGO partner HELP at Tangutur and S.N.Padu in Prakasam district.
Acting on a tip-off, the Childline members went to Tangutur and stopped the marriage of a 16-year-old junior Intermediate girl student. Her parents had all arrangements in place to perform her marriage with a 22-year-old mason. The girl has been shifted to the rescue home ''Bala Sadan'' following the orders of Prakasam District Child Welfare Committee , said social activist B.V. Sagar.
The marriage of another 16-year-old girl with a 25-year-old person of the same village was also thwarted. The girl had discontinued her studies after 8th standard. The CWC was making arrangements to send her to a bridge school. In S.N.Padu, the Childline team stopped the marriage of another girl, who is a school dropout, with a 25-year-old mason. She, however, did not show any interest in studies and wanted to hone her skills to find a suitable job.
