The Hindu Literary Fest for school students

First contest of the first edition in Vijayawada tomorrow

In a yet another attempt of providing an opportunity for school students to showcase their talent, The Hindu in association with Vignan’s Foundation for Science, Technology and Research is going to organise ‘Literary Fest’ in two Telugu States between September 27 and November 17. This is a first of its kind State-level competition by The Hindu with focus on literary skills of students from Classes I to X.

Competitions in different patterns including oral, written and play will be part of the fest. While oral contests in storytelling and dramatised book reading are for students of Classes I, II and III, the students of Classes IV and V can compete in one oral-fairy tales with a twist and one written-folk tales writing activities.

Students of Classes VI and VII can compete in the creative narration of popular personalities, creative writing( fiction, drama or comedy) in English and perform a theatre play or drama depicting a popular story. The high school students of Classes VIII to X can participate in the writing of biography of popular personalities, description of mythological characters with the positives and negatives and self-developed (original idea) drama activities.

The time for oral activities for primary school students will be five minutes and for upper primary and high school teams it is six minutes. Written activities for all will be of maximum 45 minutes and the word count limit is 200 words. Plays will be given 10 minutes.

First contest

The first event will be held in Vijayawada on September 27 at P.B. Siddhartha College of Arts & Science starting 9 a.m.. It will be followed by the one in Visakhapatnam on September 29.

Kakinada will host the event on October 30, and Guntur and Tirupati on November 2 and November 9 respectively. The grand finale will be held at Vignan’s campus in Thimmapuram of Visakhapatnam for the teams that top the city level events.

Registrations

Registration is free and the school managements have to send the list of participants for each of the 10 categories and activities by email to vjwcirc@thehindu.co.in before 2 p.m. on September 26 (Wednesday) in the prescribed format.

Participation certificates for all participants and a medal and certificate of appreciation will be given to the winners. For further details, school managements can call 9948229922.
