The Andhra Pradesh Assembly continued to be disrupted for the third day in a row over the Telugu Desam Party’s no-confidence motion as well as the Telangana Rashtra Samiti’s demand for a resolution on creation of Telangana state.
The House was adjourned twice on Saturday morning as the TRS and the TDP members surrounded the Speaker’s podium on their demands while the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLAs too were on their feet demanding a discussion on the law and order situation in the old city area of Hyderabad.
The House was initially adjourned for 15 minutes but resumed only after 80 minutes.
The TRS members, holding placards, stormed the Speaker’s podium demanding that the House pass a resolution seeking creation of Telangana state.
The MIM legislators too rushed to the Speaker’s podium seeking a discussion on the law and order problem.
Speaker Nadendla Manohar appealed to the members to return to their seats and let the House transact business. He announced that the listed questions for the day were deemed to have been answered while the condolence motions for departed former MLAs were also passed amidst the din.
Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu appealed to the members to let a short-duration discussion be taken up on the drought situation in the state but to no avail.
As the TDP MLAs raised the demand that their no-confidence motion be taken up for discussion immediately, the Speaker said he was looking into it and announce a decision soon.
As the TRS members remained unrelenting, the Speaker adjourned the House for 30 minutes the second time and invited floor leaders of all parties for a meeting to break the deadlock.
On the first day of the winter session on December 1, the House was adjourned after adopting a condolence motion for sitting MLA N Rajeswar Reddy even as the TDP members disrupted the proceedings for a while on the no-confidence motion issue.
Yesterday, no real business could be transacted as the TDP and the TRS MLAs remained steadfast on their demands.
The winter session is supposed to end on Monday with a sitting even on Sunday.
Meanwhile, TDP legislators Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar and Devineni Umamaheswara Rao wondered why the Speaker was not allowing the no-confidence motion though they gave a notice three days ago.
“Contrary to the tall talk of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy that they are ready to face the no-trust motion, the government is clearly running away from a debate on the issue,” they alleged.
