The Telangana State government has ruled out banning sale of Maggi, but has decided to send notices to the noodles manufacturer Nestle for the presence of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) in the tastemaker. The State government officials have maintained that the analysis has indicated that lead levels were normal and with the noodles manufacturer voluntarily deciding to recall Maggi from the shelves, there was no point in banning the same. In its Maggi pack, the manufacturer claimed that there was no added MSG but after analysis by the State food laboratory, it has become clear that MSG was present in the tastemaker prompting officials to term it as ‘misbranding’. As a result, the State government has decided to send notices seeking clarification on the claims of no MSG to the noodles manufacturer. The food laboratory tests on nine samples (six from Telangana and three from Andhra Pradesh) has revealed the presence of MSG, a commonly used flavour enhancer. Out of the nine, six Maggi packets were from Hyderabad, while two were from Vizianagaram and one was Eluru.
