TDP, YSRC workers clash

January 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:13 am IST - ONGOLE:

Five persons were injured and the car of YSR Congress MLA Gotipatti Ravikumar was damaged when activists of the ruling Telugu Desam Party and opposition YSRC clashed here on Monday night.

Tension gripped the Prakasam Bhavan area, where additional forces were rushed to maintain order.

Police said the trouble started soon after Agriculture Minister P. Pulla Rao left the venue after a review meeting. The gunman of the YSRC MLA, who had defeated TDP strongman Karnam Balarama Krishnamurthy's son Karnam Venkatesh in the Assembly elections, asked the TDP activists to make way for Mr. Ravikumar.

After a wordy duel, the activists of both the parties threw stones at each other injuring at least five persons.

In the melee, window panes of the car of Mr. Ravikumar were damaged. Mr. Ravikumar and his followers staged a sit-in protest in-front of the collectorate demanding action against those responsible for vandalism.
