Debt burden will give incoming govt. sleepless nights: Kanna

February 06, 2019 12:04 am | Updated 12:04 am IST - Srikakulam / Vizianagaram

BJP State president Kanna Lakshminarayana on Tuesday said the State was in a debt trap because of the “wrong decisions and policies” of the TDP government.

It would be a Herculean task for the next government to run the administration as the debt burden had crossed ₹2 lakh crore in the last few years, Mr. Lakshminarayana said while addressing public meetings as a part of his Praja Chaitanya Yatra at Parvatipuram and Kurupam in Vizianagaram district and Etcherla, Rajam and Palakonda in Srikakulam district.

“Financial anarchy” was prevailing in the State as the government misused the ₹5.5 lakh-crore given by the Centre.

This apart, the government borrowed huge amounts and used the overdraft facility quite often, he observed.

‘CM owes explanation’

“Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu owes an answer as the situation may lead to non-payment of salaries to the employees, leave about developmental activities,” said Mr. Lakshminarayana.

“The TDP government is also not allowing the CBI, the Income-Tax Department, the Enforcement Directorate and other Central departments to question its misdeeds. It is nothing but challenging the constitutional authority. Mr. Naidu and his confidants are answerable to the people for their deeds,” he said.

Senior party leaders S. Suresh Reddy and P. Sanyasi Raju charged the TDP government with making attempts to stall the programmes of national president Amit Shah on Monday.

Central Labour Welfare Board chairperson V. Jayaprakash Narayana urged the cadres to explain people about the Central government’s schemes and strengthen the party at the grassroots.

Party regional coordinator P. Tirupati Rao, National Executive member S.V. Sanyasi Rao, Yuva Morcha State vice-president S. Rajesh Kumar alleged that the TDP government had done nothing to the district in the last five years. Industrial growth had come down drastically with the closure of many industries, they said.

Earlier, Mr. Lakshminarayana asked party leaders P. Venugopalam, A. Ravi Babji, and G. Bhagya Lakshmi to constitute booth-level committees immediately.
