Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly and YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday said that the Congress had lost its credibility by joining hands with the Telugu Desam Party in the Telangana elections, especially after releasing a ‘çhargesheet’ against alleged corruption in the Chandrababu Naidu government in June.

Addressing a public meeting as part of ‘Praja Sankalpa Yatra’ at the industrial town of Rajam on Monday, Mr. Jagan alleged the TDP was forced to enter into an alliance with the Congress after the Telangana Rastra Samithi ignored its overtures.

“Mr. Naidu has no ethics or morals. He would have criticised the same Congress if Telangana Minister had K.T. Rama Rao accepted the proposal made by the TDP president a couple of months ago. People will reject the TDP-Congress alliance both in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh,” he added.

Training his guns at Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan, Mr. Jagan said the former had no moral right to talk about his alleged corrupt activities.

“Mr. Pawan Kalyan is criticising the YSRCP under the direction of Mr. Naidu. He has not uttered a word against against the TDP government in the last four and a half years, but trying to project himself as a clean person. He cannot escape from the misdeeds committed by the TDP government since he extended wholehearted support to it,” said Mr. Jagan.

‘Youth left in the lurch’

The YSRCP chief alleged that the government had betrayed lakhs of unemployed youth after making tall promises such as one job to each family and payment of ₹2,000 as unemployment allowance. He said that only 1.95 lakh youngsters were selected for the benefit under Yuva Nestham although more than 1 crore were eligible in the State. He termed sanction of the allowance ‘an election gimmick.’

“The government has also caused agony among youngsters by giving notification for 7,900 teacher posts although there are as many as 23, 000 vacancies,” he said.

Mr. Jagan alleged that the farmers were also betrayed with the inordinate delay in the construction of Polavaram and other projects.
