The revolt of Telugu Desam Party corporators against Mayor Koneru Sreedhar has put the party leadership in a fix as it has to choose between ignoring the demand of the majority and taking the risk of appointing a new one for the remaining 17-month term.
While the corporators who have made it clear that they will not work with Mr. Sreedhar are keeping their fingers crossed, party seniors feel that the decision to ease out Mr. Sreedhar may not be taken at this juncture considering the short term available. “The leadership may not show him the door. If one of the few senior corporators is given a chance to take over the top position, others may come up with similar demands,” a senior leader closely monitoring the situation said. Though party urban president and MLC Buddha Venkanna, who discussed the issue with both the parties, is yet to put the matter before the Chief Minister and parliamentary in charge Lokesh, the leadership is already working out a solution, it is learnt.

Mr. Jasti, Ch. Gandhi and M. Venkateswara Rao are among the senior corporators eyeing the top post.
