Suicides not because of leaders' statements: CM

Chief Minister appeals to students and youth not to get emotional and their lives

March 28, 2012 02:15 am | Updated July 21, 2016 07:27 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said here on Tuesday that the suicides by youth in the recent past were not because of the statements made by politicians.

Replying to a question from reporters whether students and youth in Telangana were resorting to the extreme act as they were unable to bear the statements made by some leaders, he said: “I do not agree with the view. It is not correct. Such reports in the media are misleading.”

Several reasons

The Chief Minister maintained that there were several reasons for people to commit suicide. “They may end their lives due to domestic problems, failure in love or because of stress. People are very intelligent and they do not easily get influenced by some reports,” he pointed out.

He hastened to clarify that his remarks were not aimed at the suicides in Warangal district – one by an MBA student Bhojya Naik and the other by an autorickshaw driver Rajamouli, both of whom immolated themselves in support of the statehood cause.

Mr. Reddy reiterated his appeal to the students and youth from Telangana not to resort to suicides. “Do not get emotional and end your lives,” he said adding that parents, friends and well-wishers reposed a lot of faith in their future.

On the possibility of introducing a resolution in the Assembly on Telangana statehood, he said it was not on the cards. The issue had to be tackled by the Centre and the State government had no role in it, he added.
