Students and research scholars under the aegis of Madiga Students Federation, Acharya Nagarjuna University, on Friday urged the University Grants Commission (UGC) to drop its proposal to do away with the non-fellowship scheme from this academic year.

The non-fellowship scheme provides scholarships to students who had not qualified in the National Eligibility Test (NET). Under the scheme, scholars were entitled to a monthly fellowship of Rs.8,000. Madiga Students Federation president Abhishek urged the UGC to drop its proposal since it could affect the prospects of SC and ST students pursuing research.
