A 10th class student of the Government Boys High School in the Baireddipalle mandal headquarters was beaten up by his mathematics teacher for not doing home work on Friday, with a warning that he would fail the student in the examination, if he revealed the matter to his parents. The incident came to light on Saturday.

Venkata Ramana, gave beat up to the boy who got fainted for while. But, he did not reveal the episode to anyone fearing wrath of the teacher. The relatives of the boy, who came to know about the incident on Saturday, questioned the school authorities. A villager said that the boy was threatened by the teacher that he would not the exam, if he made it an issue, forcing the boy and his grandma to drop the idea of lodging a complaint.

When contacted, MEO (Baireddipalle mandal) K.L. Saileela confirmed that the teacher had beaten up the boy for not doing homework. “The teacher should not have handled the boy in such a rough manner. But, we made the teacher apologize to the boy, and took an undertaking from him on the matter. The issue has been compromised,” she said. “We have informed the DEO about the compromise,” the MEO said. The Baireddipalle police said that they were aware of the assault, but did not receive any complaint.
