State to do away with obsolete revenue rules

CIPS engaged to suggest reforms in revenue department

January 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - HYDERABAD:

In an effort to reform the Revenue Department in tune with the modern day requirements and simplify the procedures, Andhra Pradesh government has engaged the services of Centre for Innovation for Public Services (CIPS).

Reforms

The mandate given to the SIPS is to study the functioning of Revenue Department in the State and identify the areas where structural, functional and procedural reforms are needed.

There are several revenue rules, procedures and the jargon like ‘Adangal’ in force since the British days and became obsolete and not understood by common people. It is time to do away with obsolete rules and simplify the terminology and procedures, said Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister K.E. Krishna Murthy here on Thursday.

Addressing media persons here, he said CIPS Director and retired IAS officer D. Chakrapani has been authorised to tour all the 13 districts. He could utilise the services of serving departmental or retired officers to study and review the present practices and procedures and identify the lacunae if any and rectify them. The organisation will submit reports periodically and present a comprehensive report on the proposed reforms within a year, he added.
