Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the State will always be a testing field and a model to the nation in innovations and reforms in the energy sector.

Mr. Naidu was addressing the closing session of the two-day AP Energy Innovation Summit 2019 here on Wednesday. He said many reforms in the power sector were implemented in A.P. in the past and the Energy Department was up with more game-changing reforms.

He called upon the experts and energy sector firms to become partners in the revolutionary solar pumps smart grid project aimed at connecting 1.7 million pump sets in the State.

Like never before, farmers would be able to earn ₹15,000 to ₹18,000 every year by sharing the surplus power generated on their solar panels to the micro-grid, he added. “Capital Amaravati will have the ‘District Cooling System’ through which every building and house will get air-conditioning just like power, communication and gas. We are going to provide AC through ducts to every house and charge accordingly. I was told this system will bring down [energy usage] by 30%,” Mr. Naidu said. The CM said that by March-end, the State would have 100% LED street lighting and the State is at present producing 6,154 MW of renewable energy. He said the world’s largest wind power plant of 160 MW capacity was coming up at Anantapur.

Award winners

Earlier, Mr. Naidu presented awards to the winners of the pitch competition held as part of the summit.

1366 Technologies won the first prize for its Silicon Solar Value Chain project and Chakr Innovations ended runners-up for its concept of using particulate matter captured from diesel engines as paints and the concept of autonomous solar panel cleaning robots by Skilancer Solar won the third prize.
