SPF constable attempts suicide in Secretariat

A constable of Special Protection Force on sentry duty inside the Secretariat attempted suicide by shooting himself with a self loading rifle on Sunday midnight.

The constable of 2010 batch, Rajesh, suffered bullet wound between the chest and shoulder and was admitted in hospital. The Saifabad Inspector V. Umender said that according to the doctors said he is out of danger.

The constable spoke to his wife, Vidya, who was in the house of her parents in Nellore having recently undergone a surgery on spinal cord, over mobile phone. The call data record showed that he called up her around 9.30 p.m. and spoke till 12.40 a.m.

“The constable slipped into depression over ill health of his wife,” the Inspector added.

After the long telephone conversation with his wife, the constable went to the temple before C block inside the Secretariat and fired one round with his SLR. The bullet hit the roof of the portico outside the temple.

“He fired one more round, and the bullet this time pierced his body between the chest and shoulder,” the Inspector said. Rajesh’s father is also a policeman. He works as head constable with the fifth town police station in Nellore and was in Hyderabad for Assembly bandobust.
